The guts are probably worn out.

This KWODE stem spindle assembly is a direct replacement for the hot and cold sides.
The cold (blue) side replaces part number 002713-40, and the hot (red) side replaces 002714-40.
You get one of each in the pack – a full set for both sides of your faucet.

These are quarter-turn cartridges with a spring check valve built in.
They stand about 3-1/8 inches tall, and they're made of solid brass with a multi-layer electroplated finish.

That means they're corrosion-resistant, tough, and look clean.
The red and blue markings on the handle are color-coded so you don't mix them up – red is hot (clockwise to open, counter-clockwise to close), and blue is cold (opposite direction).

Installation is DIY-friendly – just grab a screwdriver and a wrench, and you can swap these out in about 5-10 minutes.
